The original FS-ICU questionnaire was developed at the turn of the millennium. Over the past 20 years, the role of family in the ICU setting has evolved. Increasingly, we have focused on patient- and family-centered care and guidelines to achieve these standards have recently been published. Have families participate in rounds or participate in care of the patient was unheard of 20 years ago but has become standard of care. Accordingly, we needed to update the FS-ICU questionnaire to capture these new aspects of care. With the help of many ICU experts, the FS-ICU 24R is the newest version of the questionnaire and improves in many different aspects.
